CBMU welcomes S&P Global to present a case study on the current conflict in the Middle East, including the effects it is having on marine insurance, presented by analyst and intelligence specialists on the S&P Global team.

Following this will be a discussion surrounding the importance of vessel compliance screening with a focus on sanctions.

The Joint Cargo Committee (JCC) Global Cargo Watch List is a widely used reference for the marine insurance industry. S&P Global will also provide an overview on how the Watch List is maintained, how the data highlights both new and developing risks, and recent changes to access.

Columb Strack, Head of Global Cargo Risk, S&P Global

Columb specialises in political and violent risk advisory for the marine and aviation sectors and leads the cargo risk analysis function at S&P Global Market Intelligence. Since 2019, he has overseen the firm’s risk scoring for the Global Cargo Watch List in partnership with the Lloyd’s Market Association and the International Underwriters Association. As a member of S&P Global’s Methodology and Calibration team, he works closely with country specialists to provide a layer of critical review and analytical oversight. He has worked in commercial geopolitical risk forecasting for 15+ years, with a background covering the Middle East and developing data-driven conflict analytics.

Case Study: The Conflict in the Middle East
Kevjn Lim, Principal Analyst, Middle East & North Africa, S&P Global

Kevjn is principal research analyst for the Middle East and North Africa, and country lead on Iran and Israel, offering clients geostrategic, domestic political, and corporate security risk advice and forecasts. He also provides analytical products and bespoke briefings on the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Yemen and Syria. In independent capacity, he has written or consulted for a range of publications, research institutions and think tanks. Kevjn was formerly a delegate with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with postings in the Palestinian West Bank, Sudan's Darfur region, Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan, handling issues linked to the protection of the civilian population in the context of International Humanitarian Law, and networking with non-state actors and armed militias. He has a Ph.D. in international relations and an MA in security studies, both from Tel Aviv University, and a BA (Hons. First Class) in political science and Middle East studies from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Vessel Compliance Screening: Due Diligence in the Age of Sanctions and Deceptive Practices
Jeremy Domballe, Product Director, Maritime Intelligence & Risk, S&P Global

Jeremy oversees the Maritime Intelligence & Risk platforms at S&P Global Market Intelligence. Working closely with the public and private sector globally to help identify growth opportunities, reduce global supply chain risk, enhance maritime domain awareness, and mitigate risk & compliance exposure within shipping. He adds particular expertise in the area of maritime security risk and tactical subterfuge, whereby his analysis of deceptive shipping practises and illicit trading have helped to identify high risk assets and related entities. He has been featured in a wide array of thought leadership pieces that include (but not limited to), the Shadow Fleet, Piracy, Deceptive Shipping Practises and use of False Flags.
