The CBMU Spring Conference will be held in Halifax, May 24th-25th 2023. Join us for the Welcome Reception at the Museum of Immigration on the evening of May 24th, then followed by the full day programme of speakers at the Lord Nelson Hotel on May 25th, and concluding with the Conference Dinner in the evening. 

Registration includes attendance to the Welcome Reception, Conference Programme sessions, catered Luncheon and breaks, and the Conference Dinner. 

The Lord Nelson Hotel has extended booking under the CBMU room block to April 26th for the guaranteed room rate of $259 and applicable taxes. More details below.

Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21

"Our mission is to share the ongoing story of immigration to Canada—past to present and coast to coast to coast. The Museum is located in the Pier 21 national historic site at the Halifax seaport where nearly one million immigrants landed in Canada from 1928 to 1971."

Opening Remarks and President’s Report

Keeley Wylie is a marine insurance professional with eighteen years in the industry. She is an Assistant Vice President and Marine Industry Leader at Liberty Mutual Canada where she oversees the marine insurance portfolio. She specializes in all lines of marine insurance including Hull and Protection & Indemnity, Liabilities, Cargo, and Specie.
She is President of the Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters and a member of the International Union of Marine Insurer’s Legal and Liability committee.
Keeley holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Professional and Canadian Risk Management designations.

Irving Shipbuilding’s Role in the National Shipbuilding Strategy

Christopher Myers, MBA, P. Eng. Contracts Manager, Irving Shipbuilding

Chris Myers is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Nova Scotia and holds a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in finance. Chris has over 20 years of experience and started his career in the utility industry having worked for both Nova Scotia Power and Ontario Power Generation. In 2005 Chris joined the J.D. Irving group of companies starting with Fleetway Inc. then transferring to Irving Shipbuilding Inc. Since 2018, Chris has been a member of the AOPS Programs team at Irving Shipbuilding first in the role of Contracts Manager, and then as Deputy Project Director. Chris was most recently involved in the addition of the AOPS 7 and 8 (the Canadian Coast Guard Variant) to the AOPS Shipbuilding Contract.

Chris will be presenting a general overview of Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (ISI), and a brief summary of the work ISI is performing including work under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, and ship repair services.

Natural Catastrophes with a focus on East Coast Marine Operations

Joanna Eyquem, PGeo. ENV SP. CWEM. CEnv. (she/her), Managing Director, Climate-Resilient Infrastructure, Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo

Coastal areas are on the frontlines of climate change. Those operating in the marine and coastal environment must adapt to reduce the risks. This presentation will present key impacts along Canada’s coasts together with practical tools to analyse climate vulnerabilities and a toolbox of coastal adaptation measures. The presentation will specifically highlight the need to consider natural coastal processes to avoid maladaptation and the opportunities to achieve multiple objectives when combining grey and natural infrastructure solutions.
