Adam Curtis, AFIMAC Senior Director, Corporate Investigations

A consummate corporate investigations leader, Adam Curtis brings extensive domestic and international security knowledge and experience to his senior director role at AFIMAC. Mr. Curtis’s career spans 27 years in senior management roles with Air Canada Corporate Security and, prior to that, with the Victoria Police Force in Melbourne, Australia. In recent years, he has received several commendations for outstanding investigations work, including a prestigious letter of recognition from President Barack Obama for his assistance during the 2010 Canadian G8/G12 in Toronto. His mandate in his new AFIMAC role is to build and grow AFIMAC into a domestic and international leader in corporate investigations.

The presentation will encompass an overview of cargo crime and recent trends regarding the most popular stolen commodities of 2016/2017. We will detail components of effective security measures including new and innovative tools such as Blackberry radar. Case studies of recent cargo thefts in Latin America and the subsequent investigation will provide further insight on how these new and innovative tools can deter, prevent and recover stolen freight.

The emergence of social media investigations spans across various platforms and continues to disrupt and transform traditional investigative methods and techniques. Several case studies will highlight how social media and open source investigations can be an effective response to crime and assist the investigation and recovery of commodities.
