2016 Worldwide and Canadian Marine Figures. Highlights of 2017 IUMI Conference
This presentation will review the worldwide Cargo, Hull & P&I written premium and loss ratios. It will also review the worldwide distribution of premium and the factors impacting these results (currency fluctuation, export volumes, size of vessels, etc.). We will also drill down on the Canadian Marine results and discuss the impact that the Canadian and Worldwide economy has on them. Finally, we will review Mark McNeil's report on his IUMI experience as a first time attendee and the recipient of the 2017 CBMU-IUMI Conference Award. |

Session 2: Polar Code and Arctic Shipping
This presentation will discuss the current initiatives of the Canadian Government in the Arctic Region. Julie Gascon is the Assistant Commissioner for the Central and Arctic Region. Before her arrival at the CCG, Ms. Gascon was Executive Director, Domestic Vessel Regulatory Oversight and Boating Safety at Transport Canada. A graduate of the Canadian Coast Guard College in 1998, Julie Gascon began her career with the federal public service as a navigation officer with the CCG, Pacific Region. As a navigation officer, she served on a number of commercial vessels to earn her Master Mariner certificate. In 2005, she joined Transport Canada, where she held several positions. Besides the position of Executive Director, which she held for three years, she was also Senior Marine Safety Inspector; Executive Director, Safety and Security Secretariat; and Director, Domestic Vessel Regulatory Oversight and Boating Safety. Ms. Gascon holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Université de Montréal's School of Higher Commercial Studies, as well as a bachelor's degree in Nautical Sciences from University College of Cape Breton. |
